Chair’s Message, February 2017

We have started the new year 2017 with a lot of enthusiasm and innovative plans. Our primary objective is to make the Section effective and serve its members to meet their professional needs. As mentioned last month, we have outlined several plans including the use of social media to recruit new volunteers, as well as involve the current officers to launch new and useful programs that will make IEEE more visible and worthy to the technology fields.

As part of this strategy, our Membership Development (MD) committee has been meeting and plans some specific initiatives, which will be discussed in the March executive committee meeting.

In conjunction with MD’s plan to utilize our new website, we are planning an introductory training session on February 27th for all society and affinity group chairs and officers to become more familiar and comfortable with “ Do it yourself” concept on the new website. I understand that not everyone may have the same comfort level or the time to do so. But I feel collaborative development is what true engineering and innovation is about. I hope to see as many officers and volunteers to take advantage of this training.

The major upcoming event in the Section this month is the Engineers Week Seminar Series to be held on February 16 at the Holiday Inn in Plainview. As usual, the organizers have planned for a set of excellent lectures by experts in the respective fields.

The Section has already started the year with a number of technical meetings on wonderful topics. Please check the calendar on our website and try to attend. The meetings are open to all, and so please invite your colleagues as well.

The officers of the Section have been having a busy time working on the Awards Banquet program to be held on March 29 at the Fox Hollow in Woodbury. Please check the awards banquet page in the Pulse for detailed information about the program.

Any new member in the Section is highly welcome to attend the Executive Committee meetings and serve on a committee. Please check the website for the meeting dates, available positions, and procedure for attending a meeting.

Any comment and recommendation will highly be appreciated by the members. Please send your feedback to chair@ieee.li.
Looking forward to seeing your active role at different meetings and activities.

Thanking you,
