2017 IEEE Long Island Section Awards

The IEEE Long Island Section is the largest engineering society on Long Island, New York, with close to 2,000 engineering professionals. IEEE members from a wide range of industries work tirelessly to further the advancement of technology, making Long Island a center of innovation.

The Section’s annual Awards Banquet is organized for March 29, 2017, in order to recognize the accomplishments of some extraordinary engineers who contributed significantly towards the growth of the Section and the Region. The keynote speaker will be Jamie L Banks, PhD, MS, the Executive Director of Quiet Communities, Inc.

The Section will also recognize all the volunteers who dedicated their time and effort in running different Society Chapters, Affinity Groups and Committees of the Section efficiently.

    For outstanding contributions, commitment and leadership to enhance engineering process and knowledge of IEEE Section members in IFF communications and radar theory.

  • Long Island Section Harold Wheeler Award
    Eduardo F. Palacio, P&L Technical Management Solutions

    For exemplary leadership in the development of advanced electronic warfare systems.

  • Long Island Section Charles Hirsch Award
    Paul Akimov, Harris Corp.

    For timely development of millimeter up and down converters for military and commercial applications.

  • Long Island Section Athanasios Papoulis Outstanding Educator Award
    Dr. David Westerfeld, Stony Brook University

    For extraordinary contributions to electrical engineering education on Long Island.

  • Friend of the IEEE Long Island Section Award
    Retlif Testing Laboratories

    For outstanding support of the IEEE Long Island Section and its mission by providing financial backing and hosting EMC Society events.

  • Long Island Section Lifetime Achievement Award
    Louis Luceri, Northrop Grumman (retired)

    For a lifetime dedicated to supporting and enhancing careers of students and working engineers.

  • Long Island Section Velio Marsocci Outstanding Student Branch Award
    New York Institute of Technology

    For outstanding efforts in organizing meetings on timely topics of benefit to electrical and computer engineering students.

  • Long Island Section Outstanding Volunteer Award
    Davor Dokonal, AED Technology

    For exceptional volunteer contributions to the IEEE LI Section as the Computer Society Chair, Editor of the Pulse, Section Secretary and for an outstanding effort to improve the Section’s website.

  • Long Island Section Outstanding Young Engineer Award
    Peter Sciotto, Telephonics Corporation

    For outstanding contributions in the design and development related to Small Form Factor technologies.
