Our second lecture on the HIL/PIL series will offer the methodology to speed up development process. Dr Jin will explain a workflow for quick concept validation, and automatic embedded code generation and Processor-In-the-Loop (PIL) simulation for rapid control prototyping, as well as demo of running PSIM and SPICE simulations from one integrated environment.

In this lecture, you will:

  • Know when to perform simulation, and to what details (behavior/system-level vs. device level)
  • Understand the difference of analog control and digital control, and how to migrate from analog to digital control
  • How to perform auto code generation for TI DSP for quick hardware implementation
  • How to perform PIL simulation for code validation

Lecturer: Dr. Hua Jin

Dr. Hua Jin received the Bachelor degree from Hunan University in China in 1984, and Master and Ph.D. degrees from University of Toronto, Canada, in 1987 and 1991, respectively, all in electrical engineering. He worked as a professor at Concordia University, Montreal, Canada, from 1991 to 1995, and at the University of British Columbia, Vancouver, Canada, from 1995 to 1999, engaging in teaching and research in power electronics and motor drives. While in Vancouver, he founded the IEEE Power Electronics Society Vancouver Chapter and served as the Chapter Chair. He founded Powersim Inc. in 2001, and is currently its president. He is the original developer of the PSIM simulation software. PSIM is one of the leading software in the field of power electronics and motor drives, and has been used in universities and companies in over 70 countries around the world.
