I hope that everyone had an enjoyable summer. The committee formed to nominate the 2019 Section Officers has been busy selecting candidates. I would like to thank the committee all for their efforts in choosing people who are well qualified and dedicated. The 2019 Officer nominees and further information about the election was announced at the August 27th ExCom meeting. An eNotice will also be sent to all Section Members. We are very fortunate for all who volunteer to serve the Section.
Planning is already under way for the 2018 Power Electronics Symposium which will be held on November 8th. For more information go to the registration link which is https://www.ieee.li/pes/ . I would like to thank James Colotti for representing our Section at the Region 1 Board of Governors meeting on August 11th, and for arranging the Networking Event held on August 6th.
The IEEE Long Isalnd Section Historical Milestones committee was also busy this summer planning another important event. A ceremony will be held on September 5th at the new MART building at Stony Brook University. We will honor Dr. Paul Lautebur, the Stony Brook professor who produced the first two-dimensional MRI image.
The Membership Development Committee met and a partnership with the Farmingdale SBDC has been initiated. An event has been scheduled for October 15th, with additional events planned. Please refer to the article by David Pinkowitz in this issue of the PULSE for further information.
I would encourage you to check the Section website and calendar frequently to stay informed about all of our upcoming events and seminars. We are always in need of energetic volunteers with a positive and collaborative attitude to help us with Section activities. I would encourage all of our members to be engaged, involved, and be a part of supporting the IEEE Long Island Section. There are several Societies that have Chair and/or Vice Chair vacancies. The Section website has information about all of the Societies. Any member of the IEEE LI Section is welcome to attend the Executive Committee meetings. If you would like further information, please contact me at chairman@ieee.li. It is very important to me that the Section provide value to all of our members. Any comments and recommendations that you have are always welcome.
Thank you for your support of our Section, and I look forward to meeting you at our upcoming events.
Warm Regards,
Lou D’Onofrio
2018 Chair, IEEE Long Island Section
