Abstract- Blockchain technology has become a darling of tech news for some time now. What is it and why is it such a hot topic? This presentation will demonstrate how blockchains are a type of immutable ledger and how they serve as the foundation for cryptocurrencies. It will include the construction of a simple blockchain as an example of the algorithm and an explanation of how Bitcoin uses the blockchain to record transactions and mint new coins.
Presenter: Arnold Stillman
Arnie Stillman is the CEO of POEM Technology, a manufacturer of wireless sensors for the Internet of Things. He has had a distinguished career as an engineer/physicist, with unique experience in developing instrumentation for physics research. For 18 years, he worked as a Project Engineer at Brookhaven National Laboratory, first at the Alternating Gradient Synchrotron and later in the Physics Department. He has since worked as a Senior Researcher in wireless technologies for real-time location systems as well as a designer and integrator of military ground vehicle electronic systems.
